The same racer silhouette as the shoulder J03, in a fundamentally different leather. Culatta is taken from the rump of the horse, the same section that yields shell cordovan — a dense, tightly-packed layer that sits beneath the surface rather than on it. Working it in reverse means turning the hide to expose that inner structure, which is why the finish reads matte and slightly dry rather than glossy, and why the material feels substantially firmer in the hand than shoulder leather.

That firmness is the whole character of this version. Where the shoulder J03 drapes, the culatta holds its shape — the collar stands, the body keeps its line, and the jacket sits away from you rather than following you.

Construction is unchanged from the rest of the J03 line and just as unresolved: raw-edged hems, a floating lining left unattached inside the shell, raw zip welts. Two zip pockets at the waist, zip cuffs, band collar. Nothing is finished to hide how it was put together.

Cut slim, and it fits exactly as the horse shoulder J03 does. We'd suggest taking a size up — your usual size fits, but wears close.
